Obvious Ninja, you may have a point regarding the Monks that were killed, but some did survive and pass on their knowledge. Though it is true that at the time the author was in China most of the training was geared towards performance. Still they do have legit skills.

Come back and try your Flying Chocolate Snake skills against Muay Thai fighter Sam Sheridan when I review his new book A Fighter's Heart within the next 2 weeks.

Shit, if only the modern day monks had the knowledge and skill of their pre- cultural revolution brethren. Too bad most of those monks met their doom at the business end of a commie rifle. Perhaps then there would be some real Quai Kane Changs left in the world.

BTW my flying chocolate snake technique would pwn iron crotch technique any day.

Jeff,
Thank you for taking the time to do such a close reading of "American Shaolin," and write such an insightful review. You really captured the spirit of the book and what I was trying to do with it. I'm impressed.

All the best,
Matthew Polly
