“Everybody’s working for the weekend….” but not me for a change, so that means quality time with the boob tube. Seeing as there’s not a whole lot on TV on the weekends, that means catching up, and checking out some talked about shows from over seas. That brings to:

I talked about this one briefly before, and after catching up on 3 or 4 eps this weekend, I feel compelled to bring it up again. This show is phenomenal, and you need to find a way to be watching. The detailed life if a serial killer has never been brought to life quite like this. From Dexter’s day light job as a forensic blood spatter specialist, his obsessive eye for detail as he eyes up his next victim, his act of being a caring individual, to his black hearted need to kill and kill again, Dexter has managed to wrap me up in it’s intrigue, and I can officially say I’ll be there until the end. With recent news that Dexter has been given a second season, I can’t wait to see what they have instore for us. TV has been trying to spit out something scary for a bit now, and Showtime has finally nailed it. This guy will give you the creeps, pure and simple. Good times for all.

Torchwood has been popping on here and there on blogs, and managed to catch my interest with their promises of aliens, sex, action, and more sex. Being the curious sort, I managed to locate a source for this BBC3 phenom, and I must say, after three episodes, I’m hooked.
Torchwood is a Dr. Who spinoff, centered on the daily actions of Capn. Jack Harkness (one time Dr. Who character) and his Torchwood organization. So far it would appear that the main purpose for Torchwood is to chase down aliens on earth, and get rid of them. The side benefit to this job, would be the alien devices they leave behind, so Torchwood makes it their mission to gather these up and try to figure out just what they do.
Yes, I realize we’ve had our own sci-fi greatness here on our shore with BSG, but Torchwood gives you a bit of a different flavor, and is quite enjoyable to boot. With a good amount of action, X-Files esque mystery, and cheeky Brit humor rolled into one, we’re given a generally romping good time, with some solid laughs built in. Seeing as I haven’t seen the newest incarnation of Dr. Who yet myself, I was able to keep up with Torchwood with no problems. Manging to spinoff into their own existance, a heavy back log of knowledge is not required, and where it is, they usually give you a good blurb on the backstory that is needed.
This should be hitting the US in the near future I would expect, (Dr. Who seems to be fairly solid on sci-fi Fridays) so be sure to give a go when it does. You should it enjoy it.
